Where we started, where we are now

Mobilize Katahdin began when a group of concerned citizens from the Katahdin Region identified needs stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.  A coalition was formed, and Mobilize Katahdin began to help our friends and neighbors with immediate needs that arise.  That coalition is made up of local agencies who want to get involved in assistance to local residents.  Members of the coalition meet virtually each week to receive updates, discuss needs and brainstorm ways we can better serve those in need in our area.

Fundraising continues with support from Our Katahdin, as generous donations continue to be received.  To date, nearly $8,000 has been raised to aid those in need in the Katahdin region with food, household items, toiletries, fuel assistance, gas and grocery gift cards or any other immediate needs that arise as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With a volunteer base of nearly 50 residents, Mobilize Katahdin strives to help anyone from the Katahdin region in need.  Volunteer training continues weekly, and volunteers gather virtually each Friday at 2:00 p.m. for an opportunity to connect, share ideas, offer feedback and to support one another.  Volunteers, please join us at: https://zoom.us/j/953943860 to participate in this Zoom call weekly.

What We Accomplished Last Week . . .

  • Thanks to a generous donation from Millinocket Elks Lodge #1521, we were able to provide much needed and hard to find supplies to those in need of items such as cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper products and detergents.
  • The newly formed communications sub-committee created and distributed over 800 fliers to students and their families in the Katahdin school systems, and also at Medway Middle School, Schenck High School, Stearns High and Junior High Schools as well as Granite Street School.  This information was also shared with teachers at Opal Myrick Elementary School in East Millinocket to distribute to students via facebook classrooms.  Fliers were also distributed with school meals given to local students in hopes of getting Mobilize Katahdin’s contact information to local families.  We also put our contact information on the digital marquee in front of the Medway Middle School for a broader public display of the help available.
  • We welcomed 4 new volunteers to the Mobilize Katahdin coalition of caring community members eager to help.

Spread the word to your friends, family and neighbors to contact Mobilize Katahdin with any request for assistance they may have, like and share us on Facebook, call us at (207) 370-1581 or visit our website for up-to-date information or to donate to our fund.  We look forward to making a difference with your continued support.

Thanks so much,

Shelly
