Mobilize Katahdin began a over two months ago when a group of concerned citizens from the Katahdin Region identified needs stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic. A coalition was formed, and Mobilize Katahdin was created to help our friends and neighbors with their immediate needs as they arose. That coalition has now grown to nearly 40 members made up of local agencies, businesses and community members who want to get involved and aid in the assistance to local residents.
Fundraising efforts are in full swing with support from Our Katahdin, as donations continue to be received to aid those in need in the Katahdin region with food, medicine co-pays, household items, toiletries, fuel assistance, gas and grocery gift cards and other immediate needs as a result of this pandemic.
What We Accomplished Last Week . . .
- Mobilize Katahdin was featured on Fox 22 Channel 7 and WABI News Channel 5 last week in order to spread the word to those in need in the Katahdin Region, and provide contact information on how to request assistance, or make an donation. Mobilize Katahdin was also featured in the Houlton Pioneer Times this week regarding the work that is being done to provide for the needs of Katahdin region residents.
- The Mobilize Katahdin Coalition continues to meet virtually, but has shifted the meeting schedule to every other week for updates, share information and receive feedback on new services and areas being worked on. If you would like to be a part of the Mobilize Katahdin coalition, the next meeting is June 11, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to receive the zoom link and invite.
- The newly formed communications sub-committee has been hard at work. We issued a press release, and recently finalized a design and ordered rack cards. These will be used to get the word out of how residents may contact Mobilize Katahdin if they are in need of assistance, and to list services we are able to provide.
As our State starts to re-open, we are beginning to think about how Mobilize Katahdin’s services will expand. Currently we are working on transportation services. Once the restrictions on transporting non-family members is lifted and it’s safe to transport others, we will begin this new service. On June 1st we also began our collaboration with Eastern Area Agency on Aging to assist those aged 60+ or disabled populations with grocery shopping or food services.
Spread the word to your friends, family and neighbors to contact Mobilize Katahdin with any request for assistance they may have, like and share us on Facebook, call us at (207) 370-1581 or visit our website for up-to-date information or to donate to our fund. We look forward to making a difference with your continued support.
Thanks so much,
