Mask Up for ME– Katahdin

A group of concerned citizens from the Katahdin Region gathered in late February when they identified needs in our region stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.  A coalition was formed, and Mobilize Katahdin was created to help our friends and neighbors with their immediate needs.  Members of that coalition continue to meet virtually each month to receive updates, discuss needs and brainstorm ways to better serve those in the Katahdin region.  If you are interested in getting involved with the Mobilize Katahdin Coalition, please contact me to be invited to participate.

Mobilize Katahdin, in partnership with Millinocket Regional Hospital and the Town of Millinocket, is launching a publicity campaign to promote mask-wearing in our region. We are calling the campaign “Mask up for ME Katahdin” and we are working with a marketing firm to help spread the word widely.

The campaign centers around personal stories by influential community members in the Katahdin region about why they wear a mask. Teachers might speak to education, business leaders about the local economy, seniors might talk about their personal health, or parents might talk about their children. There are many reasons that we choose to wear masks and the important thing is that we spread the word broadly about why WE wear masks.

We will drive this campaign by sharing pictures and quotes using the attached template. Please use the attached photo template to take your picture and share a quote about why you wear a mask. Send the picture and the quote to jdanforth@mrhme.org and matt@millinocketmemoriallibrary.org and we will put it in the queue to be shared on facebook and other social media platforms.  Thank you for participating!

What We Accomplished Last Week . . .

  • Mobilize Katahdin is currently working on adding transportation to it’s services to better assist Katahdin region residents in this much needed area that is lacking region wide.  Procedures and protocols are being put in place for the safety and well-being of both our volunteer drivers as well as riders.  VOLUNTEER DRIVERS NEEDED – If you are interested in driving, please contact me for more information on becoming a volunteer driver with Mobilize Katahdin.
Volunteer training continues, and a virtual meeting via Zoom takes place twice per month on the first and third Fridays at 10:30 a.m. to give  volunteers an opportunity to connect, share ideas, offer feedback and to support one another.  Volunteers, we will use the same Zoom link for all volunteer trainings and meetings.  You can bookmark it for later or you can always find it here:   https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89946559883If you need, here are instructions on how to use ZoomMore Zoom resource and videos can be found here.
